ACTIVATION MODULES

Performance is ability activated. "Activation: A Personal Performance Management System" provides people with the means by which to more energetically and effectively process their potential – convert it into performance. It's not about what people can do but about what they do. It's about performing. It is a highly systematic, skill based approach to the converting of potential.

The Self-Confidence Module

While talent and skills are important in making performance happen, they are not the only necessary ingredients. One crucial success factor is self-confidence. It's not enough to have the ability – you have to know you've got it and have faith in your ability to put it to work. And it's not as much overall confidence that matters. It's the confidence experienced at the moment of performance demand. With that immediate self-confidence, strong performance is promoted.

The Self-Confidence Module shows you how to:

  • Manage self-criticism constructively;

  • Become a continuous confidence-builder;

  • Protect your confidence in the face of error;

  • Rapidly rehearse success for an immediate confidence-build;

  • Avoid over-focusing on mistakes;

  • Control confidence through behavior;

  • Use comparison with others constructively;

  • Manage external criticism effectively;

  • Protect confidence through change; and

  • Avoid the trap of complacency.
  • The self-confidence building exercises are easy to apply and take only moments per day. They give you control over many areas that affect this critical activator and, because activation has no ceiling, you can continue to strengthen your self-confidence over time!

    The Self-Direction Module

    Strong personal performance management requires that we continuously direct our potential effectively. As self-managers, we are constantly having to answer the question, "What should I be doing right now, and how should I be doing it?" Our performance can only be as good as the commands we give ourselves. To generate those commands requires that we focus on the opportunity, on our objectives, our values, and especially on the potential we bring to each situation.

    Minute by minute, hour by hour, immediate activity decisions are completely up to you. At any point in time you have numerous activities to choose from and for the sake of your performance, you had better choose right!. Giving yourself the right directions is a continuous and critical responsibility.

    The Self-Direction Module shows you how to:

    • More effectively manage your self-communication;

    • Make optimal use of the people resources available to you;

    • Use planning to protect the proactive;

    • Protect the practicing of the fundamentals for success;

    • Stay within your sphere of control;

    • Generate effective short- and long-term expectations;

    • Self-coach effectively and continuously;

    • Utilize new learning opportunities to continuously strengthen potential;

    • Manage decisiveness effectively; and

    • Promote self-starting.

    The self-direction building exercises are easy to apply and take only moments per day. They give you control over many areas that affect this critical activator and, because activation has no ceiling, you can continue to strengthen your immediate activity management over time!

    The Self Commitment Module

    Samuel Johnson once said that, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions." We know where we want to go and we know what we have to do to get there, but we don't follow through, or we do something else instead. The result? We don't reach our destination, and may well end up where we didn't want to be! What brings about success is not only knowing what should be done, but translating that knowledge into action. All too often, we determine a good direction and intend to follow it, but something inside us (or external to us) gets in the way – frequently without us even recognizing what's happening. Our intentions are blocked, and so is our performance.

    The Self-Commitment module increases your ability to convert your intentions into action. It's about strengthening your self-discipline so that, even if your follow through to performance is strong, it will become still stronger. Through the exercises, you learn to better identify the barriers getting in the way of your translating your commitments into action, and clearing your way to performance.

    The Self-Commitment Module shows you how to:

    • Overcome the "not feeling like it";

    • Deal with your self-directions as serious commitments;

    • Avoid getting side-tracked by others;

    • Deal with procrastination;

    • Use others to support your self-commitments;

    • Take greater control of your energy level;

    • Be a strong self-advisor;

    • Use incentives to support your performance;

    • Strengthen your realistic optimism; and

    • Align your performance with your definition of personal success.

    The self-commitment exercises are easy to apply and take only moments per day. They give you control over many areas that strengthen this critical activator and, because activation has no ceiling, you can continue to strengthen your level of self-discipline over time!
